History with Petite Basset Griffon Vendeens

The Petite Basset Griffon Vendeen (PBGV) is a historic hunting breed developed in the Vendeen region of France, with ancestry that can be traced back to the sixteenth century. Our involvement with the PBGV breed began in 2013 as a junior handler. Not only in the show ring, but also learning under the mentorship of George and Betty Barth of Gebeba PBGVs, who imported the first PBGV into the United States in 1976. We have spent significant time studying pedigrees, learning breed type, and breed preservation.  I have co-bred and co-owned numerous champion PBGVs with the Barths throughout the years. In 2021, I was invited to be a judge at the Top 20 Event at the PBGV National Specialty. I have also judged the pack show for Skycastle French Hounds. I am a member of the PBGV Club of America, which has an excellent website for information and resources on the breed. Please feel free to browse the album below for some out favorite PBGV memories throughout the years!

PBGV Breeding Program

After being involved with the breed for over a decade, I went to a show and fell in love with one of Gebeba's young PBGVs, Juju. By the end of the weekend, she was coming home with me. We are planning on our first litter born at Becada in 2026 with Juju. Our foundation breeding stock comes from our mentors, who have also incorporated French imports into their lines as well.  Our PBGVs are raised in our home with the same Puppy Culture program. Our PBGVs have been tested for Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) or are genetically clear by parentage.
